FOOD SERVICE NEWS...
Conway - 2017-18 School Year:

In collaboration with the UNH Extension Program we will again offer the Harvest of the Month program at Conway Elementary tomorrow, going classroom to classroom featuring this month's fruit and vegetable which is pineapple and cabbage.  This is a great venue for kids to sample a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables along with simpe applications for a healthy life style.  Healthy Food is good for you!  Last months samplings, Parsnip Chips and Hummus were a huge HIT district wide.  I would love some feedback I have heard nothing but good things.  Who knew kids would like parsnips, huh?
We will talk about the benefits of both the pineapple and the cabbage.  Our students will sample raw pineapple, and raw green cabbage.
In addition to that they will sample a recipe combing the two pineapple and cabbage together in a Pineapple Coleslaw Recipe.
In addition to that all students and faculty will be able to sample our Garden Cabbage and Tomato Soup.  
All schools will be able to sample the Garden Cabbage and Tomato Soup along with the Pineapple Cole Slaw.
For those families who would like to make this at home here is a simple Recipe for Pineapple Coleslaw. 
  

INGREDIENTS

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons 2% milk
  • 4 cups shredded cabbage
  • 3/4 cup fresh chopped pineapple, or canned tidbits, drained
  • Paprika, optional

DIRECTIONS

For dressing, mix first four ingredients. Place cabbage and pineapple in a large bowl. Add dressing; toss to coat.
Refrigerate until serving. If desired, sprinkle with paprika. Yield: 8 servings.
