As the end of the first trimester closes KMS has been busy in all aspects of school life. The KMS Drama club opened the newly renovated “Lecture Theatre” with an evening of three mystery scenes. The band and chorus will be performing in the Kennett Middle School gymnasium on December 16th at 6:30 P.M. Our school spirit team will be sponsoring a number of children for the local Angels and Elves program. Several students have volunteered to be guest “elves” to help support the Polar Express.

I know that the Holiday season can be a trying time for members of our community and students in our school. If we can help in any way please do not hesitate to contact KMS. I encourage all students to stay involved in positive structured activities that are age appropriate. I also encourage our students to remain kids for as long as they can, and not try to be adults too soon. I hope parents and guardians cherish these moments, even though they can be trying at times. Please do not drop off children to the school before 7:00 A.M., as there may be no supervision before this time (and the doors are locked until this time).

Please utilize our school website at www.welcomekms.com to keep up to date with all the happenings at KMS. www.edline.net is the site to check on your child’s progress reports. This is an online (you need internet capability) program that will allow you to see your child’s grade in each class. There will be links to team websites and teacher pages to find out more about what is going on in school. Parent/guardian feedback has been very good so far. The program has given students the opportunity to become more responsible for their learning. Please encourage your child to visit this site and show you how they are doing. If you have misplaced your parent/guardian log in or need additional help becoming familiar with the program please contact the school and we can help you.

Our RED (Read Every Day) program continues to be very successful which has resulted in a much greater volume of reading by ALL students. Please talk to your child about what they are reading for RED (they get free choice). A trip to the library or bookstore will help foster the love of reading. I would also encourage parents to help model reading at home.

Most of all talk to your child about what is going on in school, and please don’t accept “nothing” as an answer. You would be amazed at the work going on by these children. The opportunities are great and most students are taking full advantage of their learning. If your child is struggling, let us know.

Have a safe and Happy Holiday break and we’ll see you at a dance or ballgame!
