Important Message Regarding Student Walkout

Some of our students are aware of and are intending to participate in a student walkout tomorrow, March 14th at 10:00am lasting 17 minutes. The idea of a student walk out is being promoted through social media on a national scale as a result of the tragic events that occurred in Parkland Florida. While we support our students’ Constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and free expression, this is not an event that is promoted by our school and the student council has not engaged in any planning.  Our staff have met with a number of students to clarify our expectations. Our top priority is to ensure student safety. It is possible that some students will choose to engage in this activity so we are encouraging students who are inclined to participate to hold a “walk-in” by using the courtyard area at the Middle School. This space can be supervised by staff and, of course, is free of snow. There is no planned interruption of the school day and teachers will continue to provide instruction during that time.

I encourage you to speak with your student about his or her level of knowledge regarding this and whether engaging in this activity is right for him or her. As always, I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Thank you

A. Crosby Kennett Middle School
