Little Field Farm and KMS Science Classes
Little Field Farm has collaborated with KMS to provide a hands-on learning experience for each and every student. Over the past couple of weeks, students have been exploring various ways organisms grow and develop. To enhance their understanding, students altered a variety of environmental factors to increase the growth and development of over 150 tomato plants. Throughout the month of May, students will continue watering and taking care of these tomato plants while monitoring the plant's growth compared to growth of a set of control tomato plants. The goal of the project is to see what factors limit growth of the tomato plants so that they can in turn increase the growth of their own plants.
At the start of June, students will assist the owners of Little Field Farm to transplant each of their  tomato plants to the fields adjacent to the KMS property. Come September, the goal is for next year's 7th and 8th graders to harvest and enjoy the tomatoes!
Bioneers:
The Bioneers have been out and about this spring discovering how to make maple syrup with local owners of Sap Hound Maple Company in Brownfield, ME, and helping to clean up the Saco River on Valley Pride Day.
